What is a calculator?

A calculator (or pocket computer) is an electronic or digital device designed to perform calculations.

Today’s calculator has been preceded by quite a few interesting developments.

The first was the abacus, which was developed around 2000 BC.

Then the mechanical calculator was invented in the 17th century, which over the years evolved into more advanced calculators.

The first electronic calculator was created in 1960, and its size was not small at all – more than the size of a personal computer.

Pocket calculators were invented a decade later in the 1970s, following advances in technology in the chip industry, led by the development of the first computer chip – the Intel 4004. Pocket calculators were very expensive in those years and were used mainly in the oil and gas industries.

In the early 1980s and other technological advancements, calculators became cheaper and cheaper until they became available in schools around the world.

In recent decades, the use of electronic calculators has declined in favor of digital calculators, which have become increasingly common with the expansion of personal computers, tablets and mobile phones, and their share of computing devices in the world dropped from 41 percent in 1986 to less than 0.05 percent in 2007 dramatic).

Today, the calculator is used mainly to solve simple computational problems that do not require computer use, and is more common among students and students.

Types of calculators

In addition to the basic calculator used for a wide range of purposes, a wide variety of calculators for specific markets have been developed over the years.

The most popular of these calculators is the scientific calculator, which allows for trigonometric and statistical calculations, financial calculators that allow for calculations and financial models, graphing calculators that enable the creation of graphs for advanced calculations and functions.

How do I use the calculator?

In order to calculate using the calculator, you can use the computer keyboard to type numbers or click on them with your mouse.

Deleting typing can be done using the Backspace key or using the arrow key on the calculator’s own keypad.

In addition, the calculator can also perform more complex calculations – strong, root and more.

Using the calculator – basic functions

Connection

Add: The numbers are added to each other (appears in the calculator using the + sign).

subtraction

Subtracting one number from another number (appears in the calculator using the check).

multiplication

Multiply represents a number (multiplied) connection with itself several times determined by the multiplier (appears in the calculator using the X or * sign).

Division

Divided: The number to divide.
Divide: The number we use to divide the divisor.
Appears in the calculator using the /.

Calculations – integers

Each counts and performs addition and subtraction operations on a regular basis. From the moment we started counting toys on the floor like toddlers until today when we calculate the cost of our groceries.

Each time we count, we use a number to represent quantity, and write the numbers using symbols called numbers.

In addition to counting items, we use numbers to set order.

Our team is the second in the league.
I’m number 3 in line.
The first president of the State of Israel is Chaim Weizmann.
Numbers that represent an order are called “serial numbers.”

For example: first, second, third, etc. are serial numbers.

Incomplete numbers, circle and evaluation

Some calculations require an exact answer.

For example, when buying groceries from the supermarket. You give the cashier NIS 10 for a purchase of NIS 8.5. What is the surplus you deserve?

That’s right – NIS 1.5.
